Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 26, 2023 9:22 am Hello, I am purchasing a spec home and there are beautiful white tiles on ground floor provided by developer. The developer has used carpet to stairs and bedroom upstairs. Is it a good idea to install floorboards on stairs and rooms? The carpet actually looks nice in bedrooms. Would it be odd if we use timber on stairs and leave carpet on in the rooms? Thank you Re: Timber or carpet on first floor- which looks good ? 2Sep 26, 2023 10:43 am Dan339 Hello, I am purchasing a spec home and there are beautiful white tiles on ground floor provided by developer. But id keep the first floor carpeted. Its nicer underfoot when yo'ure trying to wind down and relax in a bedroom. Re: Timber or carpet on first floor- which looks good ? 3Sep 26, 2023 11:29 am It's entirely a question of taste, carpet feels good but you can only vaccum it, timber floor you can mop. There is an argument that if there are occupant allergies timber floors can be kept cleaner. I have vic ash on stairs and rose gum in bedrooms and it has been down 20 years. Timber is forever. Tiles on ground floor and Gfloor bedroom, timber on stairs and carpet on bedroom ? Also I would need to rip new carpet installed by developer and do tiles, that’s pinching me. Do you think I would just do floorboards on any carpeted area? Do you think I would just do floorboards on any carpeted area? so whats the actual issue? You could just leave it and not be "pinching" yourself. Anything you do over and above what is there is going to cost you money. Do you know what the carpeted stairs have under them? It could just be MDF. I cant imagine the builder covered nice wood with carpet. Changing the stairs to timber will not be cheap if they are currently MDF. That may be the deciding factor for you Re: Timber or carpet on first floor- which looks good ? 6Sep 29, 2023 2:35 am Dan339 Hello, I am purchasing a spec home and there are beautiful white tiles on ground floor provided by developer. Installing floorboards on the stairs can add a touch of elegance and durability. It's common to have a different flooring material for stairs as they experience higher foot traffic. Leaving the carpet in the bedrooms is perfectly fine, as it provides warmth and comfort in those spaces. The key is to ensure a smooth transition between the two flooring types, often done with a transition strip or threshold, so it looks intentional rather than odd. This way, you can enjoy the best of both worlds – the beauty of timber on the stairs and the coziness of carpet in the bedrooms. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 2 3061 bec of more thickness and underlay i prefer laminate. also my builder covers laminate only. 2 3832 Ok Thank you. Yes we are thinking to upgrade the cladding Axon . Although Cladding is not our choice but this is cost effective. 2 1466 |
