Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 20, 2023 2:28 pm Hi there, I am currently planning an extension off the back of my property to open up the area. We have decided on a pitched roof with raked ceilings and highlight windows and love the idea. I overthink everything however and am tossing up the exterior finishes and possibilities. I love the way these style of homes extend out over the deck, but am wondering how it is possible from a construction stand point? Is this method of framing done with steel ? My plans currently at the preliminary stage have a beam running across the back of our open gable, but am trying to work out the pricing difference between going with a beam across the area, or really opening it up and not having one at all. The lower chord of the first pic would be a massive lump if made using timber considering the size of the rafters. If you are just talking about the gable and not the sides then you don't need a beam to tie the two rafters together, you can use a rod. I have a pitched gable garage. 150x50x3 duragal steel gable span at 6m. But it has a collar tie at 1/3 the height from the apex. Using a collar tie you open up the roof and is not so obtrusive. 2 9505 traditional gable roof facade - Have you did the dark and light gray color combination in facade with gray stone in facade… 0 4351 |
