Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 28, 2023 3:38 pm Hi all - I'm wanting to mount my wireless camera under the eaves (and fix to the eaves) rather than mount to the rendered quoins. I'm not particularly handy, so my thinking is that fixing up a stuff-up in the eaves is less ugly than on the rendered facade! I've done a bunch of reading to try and work out how best to do this. Each camera is just under 500gms. Am I just doing the same as gyprock wall - i.e. using a wallmate? I feel really silly asking this one, but hoping for some clever guidance. Thanks so much Re: Mounting wireless camera under eaves 2Jun 28, 2023 4:31 pm Your eves are lined with fibre cement board so wall mates won't work. You would need to use a toggle or one of the expanding plugs that mushroom the back when you tighten the screws. The best option would be to locate a trimmer that runs from the fascia back to the house (look for a nail in the fibre cement) and then drll and use a self tapping screw into the trimmer. Cameras are only light so you can use a toggle or plug but I'd prefer getting into the trimmer so the fixing will never be an issue. It's also the smallest hole you can make. It always blows me away how generous people are with their time on here, so thank you. That white strip below is the trim right? I'll be up the ladder trying to find the nails/screws! Wish me luck!! Re: Mounting wireless camera under eaves 5Jun 30, 2023 12:05 pm I forgot to reply. You are correct, the PVC joining strip often isn't in a trimmer. Look for nails Or because the eaves are so small the nails might be behind the Scotia so you may have to tap along the underside of the eaves until you feel the solid area which will have a trimmer behind. It was good for my learning! Thanks again! Re: Mounting wireless camera under eaves 7Jun 30, 2023 12:52 pm I used the spring toggle for the fixing to the cement board (for the eaves). I did use the wallmate in the portico where we have ceiling gyprock in there. Both were easy to do (10 mins max per camera) and seem very secure. Re: Mounting wireless camera under eaves 8Jul 07, 2023 2:08 pm Update from me! Couldn't find the trimmer - not sure if there isn't one simply because the eave is so narrow. Went ahead with the spring toggles and it all worked out perfectly. Couldn't believe how easy it was in the end. Thanks for helping and giving me the confidence to give it a go!! Do it. I wish I did it. I lost a hot water system and a pool pump. Both attached and secure. Had to be a builders job. Lucky insurance came to the party. Apparently… 5 27049 The two 15mm holes are obviously not compliant. The Dept of Fair Trading would love to see this one! Do the gutters pool water after it stops raining? Although it's… 4 18158 I would replace the nails with timber or gyprock screws. They definitely wont come out 2 5383 |
