PVC pipe through footing

Hi all,

I am currently building a verandah. I have dug the footings for the stirrups/posts. The footing holes are 300 x 300 x 1000, which need to be filled with concrete. One of the holes has a PVC pipe (storm water I think) running through the centre, directly under the stirrup. The stirrup sits about 80mm above the pipe.

Should I move the pipe, protect it somehow or just concrete around it?

bridge the pipe with a bigger footing, dig down to undisturbed soil either side, wrap the pipe in 2 layers of 10mm adhesive backed foam abelflex expansion “sticky back”, then get some 12mm deformed rod to span over it, or move the pipe. don’t concrete it in or bear on it. If best on backfill it will settle and the concrete will crack your pipe.

Thanks Pulse for the reply. Just to clarify, the hole extends another 400mm below the pipe, it is it just full of water due to the rain we had. I think I will wrap it as you mentioned and span over it with deformed rod to shift as much weight off the pipe as possible.

yep sounds good make the footing bigger to to allow for the pipe in the middle
