Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 17, 2023 8:44 am We recently had a bench top installed. 1 of the joins is over the dishwasher which provides no support for bench. It is starting to drop on one side of join. The dishwasher was there when supplier measured up. My question is, should the fact that there was no support there been taken into account? The stone is suppus3d to be supported and if it's a void, there is none. The join would typically ally go there, however dishwasher wouldn't there would be a corer cupboard/carcass and this wouldn't have been N issue. Both cabinet mKer and stone mason really should have onown better. Re: Caesarstone bench join 5Mar 17, 2023 10:10 am ponzutwo Tinagoo Complete void Then you should flag it. Re: Caesarstone bench join 7Mar 17, 2023 1:29 pm strannik Tinagoo Complete void iirc we were told that you're not supposed to have an unsupported hanging edge of more than 300mm. in your case it looks more like 600mm Yes, width of dishwasher is 450, 600 deep. Re: Caesarstone bench join 8Mar 17, 2023 3:29 pm Definitely can't have an unsupported join. Sometimes stone masons will epoxy block under the stone to prevent movement but in this situation you can't. The cabinet maker may argue that he thought the joint was going to go the other way, in which case the join would have been supported but as the cabinet maker most likely used his own stone mason then that is something that should have been discussed between them and worked out. The epoxy that they use to join the slabs is very strong but across a 450 wide spacing and no support it would only be a matter of time before it moved.. It was our kitchen, he just had to measure and make bench top and install. Everything was in place when he came , so he knew the dishwasher did not support it. We are waiting for him to come back, so just wanted confirmation from people as to proper practice. Re: Caesarstone bench join 10Mar 17, 2023 4:08 pm Normally you would have a small filler in the corner so the dishwasher door doesn't open straight down the face of the other cabinet doors. This filler then gives you the ability to have a packer to support the bench. In your situation, the best option would have been to run that sink slab right through and then butt the other slab too that. The stone mason has probably tried to maximise the sheet so it's possible he couldn't run the sheet the other way without charging more but without seeing the whole job that's just a guess. If the cabinets are on plastic adjustable legs and aren't perfectly level it also puts additional stress on the joint. Certainly was enough stone to do it, as side is longer than sink end. Thankyou. Re: Caesarstone bench join 12Mar 17, 2023 4:28 pm Did you do the cabinets yourself?
