Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 25, 2008 10:23 pm Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone had any guestimates of the costs involved in extending the ground level of a 30 year old brick veneer home? Looking at a possible purchase which lacks a 4th bedroom and study and so we are wondering what costs are like to add on. Would be doing this extension relatively soon after purchase so that we could then follow through with rendering and gutters etc. Any help welcome Cheers, Tash Re: Extension to 30yr old house 2Oct 25, 2008 10:33 pm If you use a builder extensions can be very expensive, generally much more expensive than building the same size section in a new home.
How many square metres would you be looking at? A family member was quoted $250,000 for a 12 square extension (but this included wet areas). Another family member project managed his own extension (buying own materials, organising trades) ... think it only cost him around $30,000 for 8 or 9 squares - completed in a matter of weeks! Re: Extension to 30yr old house 3Oct 25, 2008 10:55 pm Thanks Lyn!
Not sure exactly on size at the moment but definately under 10 sq... I'm thinking extend the existing rumpus and add a bedroom - so no wet areas or majorly tricky configuration. DH is a project manager "by trade" so we could definately handle this ourselves to cut down costs. Wow on the difference of costs you've seen. What a difference owner managed can make!
