Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 05, 2022 1:29 pm Hi, I have a had a few headaches with a recent retaining wall installation, My wall is 1m from boundary as a garden bed, I have required ag-drain, weepholes and crushed aggregate as backfill. The major issue was that during construction we had substantial rain and movement of dirt, the contractor wanted to erect the wall and backfill as fast as possible as there was a lot more rainy weather forecast. Result = a very expensive besser block core filled wall without waterproofing, with almost impossible access behind other than to partially excavate the aggregate and attempt to waterproof I have spoken with a waterproofing place who recommended Dri Zoro to go on negative side to allow for render or cladding. Does anyone have experience with this product and or suggest a way forward? Thanks Re: Water proofing a besser block core filled retaining wall 2Oct 06, 2022 8:42 pm difficult problem, I don’t have direct experience but i feel this will always give problems, there will be efflorescence somewhere. I’d be looking to get a warranty, ie someone prepared to back their solution Re: Water proofing a besser block core filled retaining wall 3Oct 06, 2022 9:41 pm Pulse difficult problem, I don’t have direct experience but i feel this will always give problems, there will be efflorescence somewhere. Re: Water proofing a besser block core filled retaining wall 4Oct 19, 2022 3:36 pm Nope. It should have been done correctly to start with - lay block wall, insert steel, core fill, waterproof rear side, install ag line, install geotextile fabric, shovel in blue metal, backfill remaining with soil. If none of that is behind the wall then you should dig it out and do it the right way. Anything less will come back to bite you on the ar$e down the track. Painting on any product to the front side is not going to work long term. Stewie Re: Water proofing a besser block core filled retaining wall 5Oct 19, 2022 3:57 pm Thanks mate, already in process of digging the SOB out. We had a lot of issues with movement but they were way too casual about the waterproofing piece which I was never comfortable with. Disappointing but learn the hard way unfortunately in that one. there is a standard besser block wall pdf somewhere online with footing sizes, also have a look at dincel. 1 3483 Versaloc is a mortarless besser block system that still needs a properly engineered footing. If you just do a 400x200 footing it will fail in time. At 17m long you need it… 1 22415 thanks Chippy, i hope they have applied sealer but i am doubt to be honest, so i am gonna do this job after handover. 8 17305 |
