Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 30, 2022 11:42 am Hi, We are in the process of doing an extension of our small double brick house, and due to the age of the house (appears to be 1960's) and change of window placement etc of current structure, finding the same bricks to match isn't possible. The only option offered has been to render the old and new to make it all look matched. I personally don't like the look of render, and have always seen it as a patch job hiding what's underneath, and something that will require ongoing maintenance over the years ( re-painting, fixing cracks etc) One option i have though of is possibly replacing the outer brick skin of the existing old part of the home with a new brick to match the extension's. This way we can also choose whatever colour brick to match the newer style windows we are thinking of putting. We will also be replacing the entire roof, so support of the roof shouldn't be an issue. Does this sound over the top or is it something that could be achieved within a reasonable cost ( consider offsetting the costs involved to render, and then ongoing costs down the track to maintain) Has anyone ever done this before? Any brickies/builders in Sydney who could provide some insight in the costs / hurdles involved would be great. 5 10541 Hi Kristy Around $1.7-1.8m or around $4,600/sqm. if you PM me your email I will send you a break up in a spreadsheet so you can get an understanding of the costs for… 1 10993 Double brick homes are the worst type of building conventions for the australian climate 1 1147 |
