Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 27, 2022 12:28 pm Hi everyone,
I love the look of bricks for our new home, with a combination of rendered sections. I am however wondering if there are any benefits in painted white bricks vs white coloured bricks? Also, if a brick house is painted with white paint, how often would you need to repaint it? Would love any advice/tips if you have any. Thank you!!! Re: White Bricks vs Painted Bricks 2Aug 28, 2022 7:04 pm Don't paint brick. Brick is permeable and needs to breathe to expel moisture from the wall. When you coat brick in paint you block the pores of the brick, preventing it from breathing. The lifespan of the brick and structural integrity will be reduced. Re: White Bricks vs Painted Bricks 3Aug 28, 2022 7:55 pm Hi Benny123, Why then do people render bricks nowadays? I don't agree that painting bricks compromises the structural integrity of them. But the fact is, the paint will crack/degrade somewhere, water will get through and it won't get out. Moisture from air/rain/wicking up bricks from damp soil etc. Trapped moisture in brick will go through freeze/thaw cycles and will reduce life of the brick. Bricks are made the way they are for a reason. Why paint or render and create ongoing maintenance for yourself? Looking for advice on whether this variation in tile colour is acceptable.
