I have a 6.6 x 9.8m area set aside in the backyard, however, for future easy removal (and to keep costs down), my preference is to not use concrete, but rather compacted rock/crusher dust. Anyone else done the same? Re: Outdoor basketball court 2Jul 19, 2022 10:14 am great way to p!ss the neighbors off. besides those dimensions aren't even good for a half court. The 3pt line arc wont even fit inside it. You'd end up with a tiny space to shoot hoops that isnt going to translate to a court at all. Seems like a waste to use it for this. Re: Outdoor basketball court 3Jul 19, 2022 10:38 am Well, not everyone has the space for a half court, some need to make do with what they have. Some court is better than no court. And if both of my basketballer kids have somewhere to play and get out, then it's totally worth it. 6.6m is plenty wide enough for a key and then some. 9.8m comfortably accommodates at 3pt line with some space behind it. Seems like a waste of space and a good way to negatively impact future resale IMO. Dark matter scientist, can breathe underwater, mind reader and can freeze matter just by willing it. Sure. But I'm entitled to share that opinion too. Don't give two shts what you do with the opinion or the space. My care for your space diminished when I realised you're set on lowering the value of your home. Dark matter scientist, can breathe underwater, mind reader and can freeze matter just by willing it. I'm chuffed that the value of my property that I don't plan on selling for at least 10 years is of concern to you. It's appreciated. Re: Outdoor basketball court 10Jul 19, 2022 1:12 pm Someone should have told the seller about the court in the backyard and it's negative impact on the value of the house: https://www.realestate.com.au/property/ ... y-vic-3149 Kind of debunks your 'lowering value' theory doesn't it? Lol Somone should tell you how the housing market works. Its like a pool, not everyone wants one, so installing features such as pools, basketball courts, tennis courts reduces prospective buyers, limiting the population that's willing to pay for it. Known fact. Now somone who wanted the home but doesnt like basketball but wanted to install apool has aditional cost to considder - often its a hard pass. Also by the look of it from the listing, they didnt just install a baskeball court, the did a KDRB and built a large porter davis family home with all the bells and whistles in a bluechip melbourne suburb and sold at the peak just before covid hit lol. based on the price differnece i cant say they would have made that much to be honest. Re: Outdoor basketball court 15Jul 19, 2022 2:18 pm stanks Noname imagine having a 1 dimensional basketball game on that "court" Imagine my kids being unable to do what they love, because there is no where to do it. Worst strawman ever. Like i said, you do you. You'll be pulling it all back up soon enough when it just doesn't get used enough because there is no ability to play a dynamic game on a pokey "court" thats pretty much only good enough for practicing free throws. Not everyone who has a home strictly buys/builds one, just to sell it. People do like to live in their houses and call it home. Hard to understand, right? not really hard, buy you brought this up with a link to a house and how my argument about lowering vlaues didnt stack up. I can do the critical thought and have worked in this space long enough to know . I was just telling you you're lowering the value. If you want, lower it, i don't care. Like i said. you do you . Lol. OK. Just free throws. Spoken like someone who knows squat about basketball. Re: Outdoor basketball court 18Jul 19, 2022 2:31 pm We had an improvised Court growing up. Was a weird triangle shape, mostly used for practicing shooting and layups, nothing serious. We used pavers, the small brick sized ones, worked perfectly fine. 25 years later my brother bought the place off my parents and my nieces and nephews still use it, though its on the second or third ring now. Biggest thing is making sure there's enough space around the ring that the ball won't end up in a neighbours property, ours would end up in the pool or the bushes etc but that wasn't a big deal. Hey, if living in a bland house that might appeal to a buyer that you might sell to is your thing, good for you. If your primary focus is how much the value of your property is, also good for. I don't lose sleep over that. Re: Outdoor basketball court 20Jul 19, 2022 2:36 pm Spazzen We had an improvised Court growing up. Yeah, I figure that despite all the suggestions of concrete (which would set me back at least $10k), a well prepared compacted crushed rock would end up being just as firm as concrete. It doesn't need to be a professional quality NBA level surface, just something they can practice or shoot around on. I've also planned to put netting up behind the rim, or, plant some pencil pine screening, but I'm still in the planning phase. I've filled, levelled and compacted around 100mm of roadbase in preparation to lay some outdoor court tiles. Prior to doing the final compaction, I dusted the top with… 0 3085 Thanks for letting us know.
