Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 08, 2022 12:09 am Hi everyone. Does the kitchen lower cabinet depth need to match the depth of the fridge cabinet? Currently my kitchen lower cabinet depth is 580mm and the fridge cabinet depth is 740mm. Therefore the fridge cabinet is jutting out by 160mm. Refer below for the side view on the plan. Or should the depth be the same as second pic the below ? Does anyone have this same scenario and can share pics? Your lower cabinets are 580mm which will result in a 20mm overhang. Fridges are made in counter depth or standard depth sizes. Count depth fits flush to the 600mm counter top and Standard depth sticks out beyond the 600mm counter depth. What sort of fridge do you have now? Did you advise your builder the specs for your fridge? Re: Fridge and counter depth 3Jun 08, 2022 11:42 pm The picture of the fridge in the recess probably won't work. Typically the doors have to stick out past the panel/benchtop so they can swing open, or the fridge opening width has to be extra wide in order to allow for the door to open well past 90⁰. Many fridges today are very deep so it's not uncommon to build a 650 deep fridge recess and then the doors themselves protrude in front of that. Remember that fridges also work better if they have a gap at the back rather than pushed hard against the wall. We had these neat little indented shelves done (inside the wall) - with the tap in them - and thus no need to allow for a tap sticking out. Agree on doors - but they should have all those sizes in the specs for the fridge. We had to have a special allowance for our fridge - it is quite big. Also - ice and water. But the doors do need to open and not hit the surrounding woodwork. Re: Fridge and counter depth 5Jun 09, 2022 10:36 pm Normally we build the fridge overhead so it doesn't go full depth, only around 450 deep. This leaves a gap behind of around 150mm. You have the fridge GPO and any fridge water outlets just up behind the overhead in that gap. This means you can hook it all up and then slide the fridge back closer to the wall without the plug or water fitting getting in the way. A 950mm wide,1800 high and 650 deep fridge space will give give you plenty of options when it comes to fitment. You could push it to 1000mm wide if you really want to make sure.
