Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 16, 2022 7:58 pm Hi There, We just had a handover inspection and the shower drain looks somewhat unusual to me covered with dirt and the main concern is what looks like plain concrete under the dirt with a round small drain pipe in the middle of the square concrete. It also seems like the concrete has tiny holes so not sure if that's the way its supposed to be. Our current house has a drain trap which doesn't show any concrete (white plastic pic). My builder says its all good , just needs a bit of clean. Is he trying to avoid rework? Any advise is much appreciated. With the exception of the bottom of the waste pan not being cleaned of tilers glue & grout. A builders clean is pretty basic but that's not basic...its not touched. They need to clean it! image 3 is your problem, the tiler has laid the tiles to avoid cuts and achieve grade, but it's all pretty useless to provide grade if you waste is seriously reduced. It looks like these's a puddle flange that the waste is sitting on the white under the hole in the floor waste grate. Your issue is the water (shower grey water) will partly drain down the waste and partly be feed back into the bed creating a lot of water in the tiles sand and cement bed, if the waterproofing membrane has been installed correctly it won't leak; but that Grey water (water, soap, body grease, hair, dirt) will get into the bed and SMELL. It is defective work and you should get the builder to rectify, they wont want to as the tiles will need to be replaced, but thats their problem! We are Expert Consultant's, and we are here to help. Re: Shower drain looks unusual 3May 18, 2022 9:11 am Thank you for the reply BuildingandLegal. Much appreciated. Pics 1 & 2 are of our new house about to be handed over which is the one I'm concerned of. Upon research it seems like the black and concrete looking stuff is probably the screed. However, I do not understand why does it look so dirty. Usually the shower drains I have seen, we only see the drain grate/tray and so much inside other than the hole itself. Our one shows the small pipe and around it is this concrete looking thing. Is it still ok? Kindly advise. Pic 3 & 4 are from display homes. Pic 5 is from our current home. Thanks again!
