Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 04, 2022 11:47 am I have found a potential house to build that I really love. The only problem is one of the kids rooms shares a wall with the main living area. Which also happens to be the wall that the TV will be on. Has anyone soundproofed a wall using a volume builder before? What are some potential options? Thanks Re: soundproofing options kids room and living 3Apr 04, 2022 1:49 pm I will look into those Batts. Does your builder say they work well? Re: soundproofing options kids room and living 4Apr 04, 2022 2:03 pm Yes; although we don't have a TV on any of those walls. One is between bedroom and toilet; one between bedroom and living area (TV on separate wall), and the third just the wall between master suite and rest of house. We're also putting a skin on the door there to reduce noise further. Thanks We had our builder (Rawson Homes) supply & fit Bradford R2.0 soundscreen in six of our internal walls (where we wanted to cut down on noise from adjacent rooms, i.e from TV's, laundry, bathrooms). It is quite effective. The sound insulation for the six internal walls cost a total of $780. Re: soundproofing options kids room and living 6Apr 04, 2022 10:30 pm look up the csr gyprock redbook which gives acoustic rating. Best bang for buck is to double up the 10mm plasterboard on the kids bedroom and use sound screen batts. Pay attention to GPOs on the wall and don’t have them back to back between rooms. Also caulk between the gyprock and the floor prior to skirtings. Should be able to organise through your builder or get site access on a weekend. More involved options use Rondo channels or double or staggered studs, all options. Re: soundproofing options kids room and living 7Apr 05, 2022 10:53 am thanks for the great ideas. I would never have thought about placement of GPOs or caulking Re: soundproofing options kids room and living 8Apr 19, 2022 3:20 pm The best affordable way to soundproof your walls effectively is to use drywall and other materials to create an air-tight wall space. Installed over insulation and sealed in to form an extra layer in your walls, drywall forms a solid barrier for sound. Hello!
