Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 21, 2022 5:29 pm The preliminary payment is non-refundable and not part of the project payments. The project costs me $29,000 for the composite desk and insulated roof. Hence, total costs me $31,000 in total, The owner / manger refused to give me the break down of total $29,000 calculated. Does it make sense to anyone that preliminary payment $2000 is required for $240 buidling warranty insurance and $1760 for their apparoval and adminstration work? I paid $2000 preliminary payment in Febbruary. I am asked to pay another $2000 deposit for the project today to start with. Therefore the upfront payment $4000 of total $31000 is required ($2000 preliminary fee and $2000 deposit of the project) before starting. Do they charge more than 10% payment of the total ? I feel I am ripped off by the prelimiary fee $2000. Should I pay another $2000 for the deposit in order to move on the project ? Should I loss $2000 preliminary fee to leave it? Thanks for your response in advance. . Re: illegal upfront preliminary payment $2000 + deposit $200 2Mar 23, 2022 1:56 am bit confused, why is it illegal? Re: illegal upfront preliminary payment $2000 + deposit $200 3Mar 23, 2022 10:01 am The total is $31000 but they require me to pay $4000 first before they start to work on my project. $4000 is over 10% of the total. According to the Fair Trading, no more than 10% payment of the total. They ripped me off for the preliminary payment $2000 for the building warranty insurance $240 and the measurement on site fee. Does it make sense to you to pay $4000 to start? Re: illegal upfront preliminary payment $2000 + deposit $200 4Mar 23, 2022 10:14 am The customer service is very poor after I paid $2000 for prelimiary payment which they asked for to start with. I do not have condident to deal with this company Wizard Home Improvements. I just read many negative reviews on the ineternet about their work...leak and unprofessional. It seems to me that they hire subcontractors to do work. No wondering they charge addition $2000 the preliminary payment for a building warranty insurance and on-site measurement fee. Re: illegal upfront preliminary payment $2000 + deposit $200 7Mar 23, 2022 4:52 pm Sorry, but I think your job sounds like a lot of hard work. I think you don't understand the costs for conducting tests, in designing/drawing, costing to progress the job to approval etc, it sounds like you don't agree with the price and probably the time it's taking the job to move forward so they must be ripping you off, they are shonks, and its all illegal based on your considered opinion. First, the salesman did not tell me that the first $2000 preliminary payment is an additional fee. He told me that they will move on the work as soon as the building warranty insurance is approved. Some weeks later, the manger Bill called me regarding the $2000 deposit is required to move on after he sent me the copy of building warrently insurance. I do not expect that the preliminary payment is not part of the prices. I think they have ripped me off somehow. Now they don't answer my calls and no response to my text messages. What should I do? Re: illegal upfront preliminary payment $2000 + deposit $200 9Mar 23, 2022 7:38 pm They require me to pay upfront $4000 which is more than 10% of total $31000 for the decking with roof. Also they require me to pay $12000 on delivery the material. Then followed by another $12000 before working on the decking and roof. Hence I will have to pay $28000 upfront before they actually start work on the decking and roof. Remaining $3000 is required on completion. Is it a reasonable payment progress?
