Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 28, 2022 7:32 pm Hi guys, My house in Melbourne was built in 1980. The stormwater and sewarage pipes have recently been CCTV'd and they found a number of blockages and ruptures (from roots). All repaired now. Do you guys know how long do these pipes last? They are made of earthenware. I'm just wondering when I'll actually need to replace the whole system as it's been in service for 42 years now. Thanks 😀 Re: Stormwater pipe material, how long do they last? 2Jan 28, 2022 8:08 pm It's not usually the pipes that are the problem they should last another 100 years. The issue is the joints. If they have repaired the joints properly those joints shouldn't allow regrowth of roots If they have just cut the roots those roots will regrow. . . . how long will depend on what is planted over the pipes.

Thanks so much! They have CCTVd the whole system and replaced all the broken sections. They have also flushed the pipes. I will arrange for removing of the small trees together with the roots over the next couple of months. Would all this suffice for the pipes to last another say 10 years? Re: Stormwater pipe material, how long do they last? 4Feb 01, 2022 8:32 am Probably. It is the rubber o-rings they use to join the pipes that degrade over time. They are after all just rubber. The earthenware pipes however if left undisturbed will last until your great grandkids are pensioners. I would have replaced your sections of sewer and stormwater pipes with PVC.
