Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Disconnecting a dishwasher 2Oct 19, 2008 3:31 pm d@n Do you need a plumber or can any old fool do it? And if so, is it easy to do? Dan you will need certification from your local Guild of Old Fools and Associated Fogeys before attempting this sort of job - the best thing to do is put on your cargo shorts and sandals, get in the Volvo and go wander around in your nearest Bung Ins for a few hours to get some experience before applying. But seriously, dishwasher connection/disconnection should not be a major issue - and you don't need a plumber to do it. Any plumbing in should be off threaded tap fittings so you can just unscrew these (after turning the taps off of course). The plumbing out "should" go into the waste of the nearby sink, most likely through that little spout on the side of the trap - these are often held on with a hose clamp so once again little potential drama, and a cap can be fitted if the machine is not being replaced or reconnected. Power will be via a GPO, often inside a nearby cabinet. The dishwasher itself may well be fastened to the neighbouring cabinetry with some screws through the shroud of the machine or off some brackets, depending on the design of the unit. These will need to be undone before the machine can come out of its recess, but should not be too hard to find. If the machine is not too old you can possibly find the technical specifications on the manufacturers web site that will advise of any specific fixing points. I hope this helps (don't forget your hat if you are going out in the Volvo, this will get you fast tracked into guild membership).
