Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 04, 2021 6:03 pm We're working through our plans at the moment. Currently we have a 3.3m entrance, 3.0 kitchen / dining / lounge and 3.0m second lounge. But the bedrooms / bathrooms / laundry and our office & guest room upstairs have a ceiling height of 2.4m. It hasn't bothered me that much to this point, mainly because of the high cellings in the living areas, but starting to wonder if might be too small for some reason ? Can we get away with 2.4 in the bedrooms or should we try and go 2.55 ? Re: Ceiling Heights - Bedrooms 2Oct 05, 2021 8:14 am 2.4 is standard. I know some people go higher on the second floor where bedrooms are. Personally if i was building a two storey, id probably not pump money into the lesser used areas. So think about if you're going to care about how high your ceilings are while youre asleep. COnversely, if you or kids spend lots of time in bedrooms, maybe its worth it. Can we get away with 2.4 in the bedrooms or should we try and go 2.55 ? Hi narcan 2400-2500mm is a very common ceiling height for bedrooms, with 2450mm being the sweet spot for most of our clients. I personally built my own kids bedrooms at 2450mm, with a 4000mm rumpus ceiling height. 2450mm gives a nice and cosy feel to the bedrooms, and you also dont have these cavernous areas to heat and cool. as Noname said, pump your money into your downstairs living areas. Re: Ceiling Heights - Bedrooms 4Oct 05, 2021 10:13 am Thanks for the replies everyone. Sorry, should have been a little clearer about the config: Downstairs (2.4 meter heights): 3 kids bedrooms, bathroom, Master bedroom / Ensuite / WIR, Laundry, walk in pantry, study. Downstairs (3.0 meter height): Dining, Living, Kitchen, Second Living Downstairs (3.3 meter height): Entrance Upstairs: (2.4 meter height): Studio / office, Guest Room & Ensuite. Sounds like 2.4 might not be too unusual in this situation given the main living areas have good height ? Guess main worry was ceiling fans etc. But also if down the track we had to sell and people for some reason felt like the 2.4 in the bedrooms were too small. Good point on them feeling cosy and better to heat and cool. I think I'm generally ok with the size as long as I won't find I'll come to regret it down the track for some reason. Though am maybe considering raising still on the upper floor for the studio / office. Building Standards; Getting It Right!
