Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 30, 2021 4:09 pm I have just purchased vacant land in an old established area that still has overhead powerlines. I’m looking at installing an electrical pit but want to know how much roughly I should expect to be quoted by an electrician/ how long the process may take. Thanks Re: Underground pit 2Oct 01, 2021 11:50 am The electrical pit is installed by the power company, not your typical electrician. It takes up to a month plus for the power company to do anything from point of submission and the costs will vary depending on how far away the put is from the pole. To give you an indication, my closest power pole was 15m across the road and it costed $6.5k. Some builders have stipulations that power needs to be in place before they start building whereas my builder handled everything from his end and he relied on a generator whilst waiting for the pit to be put in. Re: Underground pit 3Oct 01, 2021 12:00 pm Normally you deal with your electricity supplier for this matter. Application should be pretty straight forward. Cost depends on where the existing pole is because that will determine how long they will need to run the new cables to your house. From what I've seen, it should be around $5-$8k. Mine costed $4.5k Pole was right in front of my land. You just need to check with your builder where to put the pit, normally on the footpath in line with your land boundary. And also you need to check with your electrician about what amps to get and if you need a 3-phase. Re: Underground pit 4Oct 19, 2022 7:31 am Hi all, when you got your pricings for the electrical pit from the supplier, did they provide any breakdown of costs or just one amount? I received an “offer” from united energy and it is just 1 total amount, no other information. Tried to call and email but no one can help. Presumably there is really no option but to pay whatever amount they come up with..? Hi JW I just read your post and I find this situation quite strange. When we build, we get a temp pole for construction which becomes the permanent pole for one of the… 1 3934 1 4074 Thanks for that, the PVC pipe is still about 40cm below ground level and it sticks out of the sand with no end cap or anything on it just open pipe, is this the finished… 2 9506 |
