Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Can this batten be used for my project? 2Sep 09, 2021 5:21 am tangle88 Going to cover my entire living room wall with MDF boards on original brick wall, can this 42x19mm batten be used to level the surface before board goes onto wall? https://www.bunnings.com.au/42-x-19mm-2 ... e_p8401458 I'm not sure if these battens are strong enough to hold screws that's all. tangle88 I know Chippy is going to give you a much better answer to this one then I can, but I don't believe you can or should be screwing MDF sheets to anything as MDF doesn't hold screws too well. But I think the answer to your original question is probably yes if you are using them to get a level surface. Then the MDF should be glued onto the battens and fixed with brad nails to hold the sheets in place whilst the glue dries. Alternatively, and it would be good to get Chippy's input, assuming the wall was straight, wouldn't an option be fixing ply to the brickwall first and then the MDF to the ply? Keen to hear others thoughts on this.
