Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 07, 2021 7:16 pm We upgraded from a 90cm pullout rangehood to an undermount rangehood at a quoted price of $440. This was in the tender and signed by us and the builder. The correspondence also clearly stated the ducting was 'already' included for the 90cm pullout rangehood, so $440 was it. Now, our final payment has a miscellaneous item of $880 for ducting to the rangehood. Any thoughts? Re: Is our builder being honest? 2Sep 07, 2021 7:34 pm The existing rangehood would already have been ducted to a flue as that is a requirement. Most rangehoods use the same ducting unless you go with some of the expensive external motor versions. If you just upgraded from a pull out to a standard undermount it would have used the same duct and flue. I'd question the builder. Maybe we are running our business incorrectly as we don't even charge extra for installing these items. Our theory is, if you're getting a rangehood it goes without saying that it needs to be ducted, and depending on your kitchen layout its generally a pretty simple process. Anyway, perhaps it's an administrative error or perhaps and I have seen this before in some contracts builders charge a fixed fee for requesting a variation. After you speak with your builder can you let us know how you go? Re: Is our builder being honest? 7Sep 09, 2021 9:01 am Thank you for the replies - it's appreciated! Just to clarify, the $880 is on top of the $440 upgrade ($440 being the agreed and signed off upgrade cost). We're hoping this is just an admin error. Will let you know as soon as we hear - thanks again! Re: Is our builder being honest? 8Sep 09, 2021 9:41 am DAA Thank you for the replies - it's appreciated! Re: Is our builder being honest? 9Sep 14, 2021 3:15 pm Great news - they deducted the $880! Our builder didn't explain the error, they just took the amount off the final invoice. Thank you for all the advice, as this $880 is going towards our wardrobe fit outs! Re: Is our builder being honest? 10Sep 14, 2021 9:15 pm DAA Great news - they deducted the $880!
