Browse Forums General Discussion Re: house colour 24Oct 16, 2008 10:19 pm I would definitely consider the rendering as that helps pull it together so it looks like it belongs together BUT before you do, match the windows one way or the other. ATM it looks like an extension was done because the windows are not the same type..
I wouldn't worry about putting in stackstone as it makes it look patchy where dan has put it. ( just MHO ) hmm could you put stackstone on the two smaller upright pier sections instead if you are really keen on stackstone. Or on them and across the top half around the righthand window? Re: house colour 26Oct 17, 2008 6:07 am I'm going with Judie's stackstone. Stackstone being so expensive - having too much of it on this house would be over-capitalising !
I think the house just needs a small tart-up. Newground, you did realise that we're pretty opinionated, didn't you ? Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: house colour 27Oct 17, 2008 7:21 am You guys are great, you made me laugh as you went off on your tangents! Thanks heaps! And as for many opinions, I love it, more ideas to throw around.
We considered the render idea but because we had fibro, we didn't think it was an option. But now I know different. The front room was a verandah, now closed in and is now our study. The cracks in the brick work have been patched up, obviously. But they don't appear to have cracked again. Question with the render over brickwork? Where there was previously cracks are these areas prone to cracking again and therefore cracking the render? If so, is it easy to patch as well? We only bought the house back in January (first home buyers, can ya tell?). Deceased estate, approx 65yrs old, we love it though, loads of character, keep finding all these little patch jobs and hidey holes the old man had while he lived here. Another question- We have very high ceilings with the original decorative plaster cornices. We love them and they are in great condition but the actual flat ceiling is cracked and slightly warped in some rooms. When we moved in we spakfilled and painted but they are still visible? Can you replace the flat ceiling part only, leaving the cornices? Hubby reckons you can but its pricey? Ideas anyone? Oh also, any ideas on cladding? We considered that option too. Thanks heaps! By the way, I love the stackstone idea, particularly on the two pillars! Re: house colour 28Oct 17, 2008 8:30 am the original colour switch so that the creamy colour was on the walls was nicer than the grey. if you are only going to render I think this might look nicer than the grey.
I guess it depends on what you change the roof tiles to colourwise but without some stackstone or something to contrast in the grey render it looks very "grey" ... < hides from mek and joles> Blog http://wherethehearthis.blogspot.com/ Build https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=6634: Yard https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=27687&p=378401#p378401 Re: house colour 30Oct 17, 2008 9:42 pm Judie….I think he has used my Jasper I put up on the other page.
here you are. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: house colour 32Oct 18, 2008 1:22 am There was an older style house in our area which was recently renovated using a surfmist roof and shale grey render, with a timber front door. I loved it so much I ended up choosing the same colours for our build!
If you do render, I think you should try to make the house feel a little less 'bottom heavy' - perhaps by adding a planter box? This would soften the front, and make it appear more level. Re: house colour 33Oct 18, 2008 4:16 am I quite like that one.... Even without the stackstone
You guys are so clever! Re: house colour 34Oct 18, 2008 8:24 am Judie d@n - do you have a file with paths for the render colour? If you do, can you send them to me - thought I'd try another colour render and I'm being lazy. Thx. Judie I use alpha channels rather than paths. You can download the file (2.4mb) here... http://www.savefile.com/files/1844887 Re: house colour 36Oct 19, 2008 7:38 pm I like amilelka's version too - I am quite in love with Surfmist roofs since seeing a few on the forum lately!
But I don't think the stackstone works on this house - it's too modern for it IMO. (the stackstone too modern for the house I mean ) Have you decided what to do yet newground? Re: house colour 37Oct 19, 2008 7:43 pm amilelka...that’s great!!
Looks fantastic. I really need to get on with my Photoshop. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: house colour 38Oct 20, 2008 7:41 am We haven't decided yet. We are still thinking about cladding it as well. I was thinking about keeping the surfmist colourbond colour, painting the brickwork a darker greyish colour and then getting the cladding in a tone somewhere in between the surfmist and brick work paint colour. I really like the planter box idea though. It really gives the front something. Wish I knew how to do the photoshop thingy. Is it a program you have to buy?
Thanks again! Re: house colour 39Oct 22, 2008 11:07 pm Yes, Photoshop is a software you have to buy. But you can download a 30 day free trial version from Adobe.com if you want to give it a try. There are heaps of free tutorials online that you can learn from.
I agree with donuts - the stackstone does clash a little with the house. I think I prefer it simple, but with the planter box. Re: house colour 40Oct 23, 2008 9:11 am amilelka I agree with donuts - the stackstone does clash a little with the house. I think I prefer it simple, but with the planter box. What about a lighter shade of stack stone? I think it ads a focal point and a nice bit of texture to break it up a bit. welcome to learning that colours vary in different lighting conditions. 1 2910 Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7170 Hi - thanks for your reply. Yes I think 'Ill go for whitish with very speckly bits rather than pure white something like this.
