Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 13, 2021 10:21 am Hi All! First post for me, thanks in advance for any assistance my fine friends! I'm looking at purchasing an old wattle and Daub settlers cottage in the Wimmera! The post and beam structure is sound, as is thebroof. The building consists of 4 rooms and looks to ulhave been rendered in a 1 inch concrete mix in the past that is falling off! The wattle and Daub is ok and solid to about a foot off the ground where it's suffering from rising Damp and has powdered and fallen away, the wattle here also seems to be effected by a dry rot, above and it's ok! Its winter at the moment and not unexpected, maybe has been doing this since it's construction over 100 years ago, My questions? Can you just re Daub the bottom sections? Do you need to reinforce the wattle? Do they need new footings - they seem to go straight to earth? Is there something to consider for the dampness?? Hopefully I have someone who is a bit of an expert in wattle and Daub coming through to have a look! The plan is to fix the walls, do whaterth work needs doing and retreat with a Lim render, like wash to keep it in its original state! Happy to get some pics when I can, and thanks again in advance!
