Need to remove one joist in the ceiling as shown in the picture, then install a electrical folding stair to the attic floor.
The size for the folding stair size required is 800mm, the width of the timber currently used is 45mm. By removing this one joist would it cause any problems? If so how can I restructure this area to make it sound and secure?
Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!

looks like you already have particleboard down for flooring, I assume the ceiling joist spans
been designed for floor loads.
There is no truss, you can double/sister the existing ceiling joists as shown in blue. Use same depth timber if you need 800 and only have 850 space then sister on the outside of one of the existing joists either side of the opening making then opening 805mm which might be a bit tight if not square. Use 75mm batten screws to sister the joists, Use joist hangers or longer batten screws to frame out the opening. Easy job for a carpenter. Don’t forget a rail, easy to step back and fall out if moving boxes around up there
