Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 07, 2007 10:25 am For anyone who has built a weatherboard home (or anyone with info.), can you advise which type of external cladding/weathboard you used and why. There are a number of materials available and each is supposedly superior. We would prefer one that can be painted so something like vinly would not suffice.
I guess we are looking for something that is:- - attractive - strong - insulates well (including noise) - long lasting/durable - paintable Thanks !! Re: External cladding, which is best? 2Jan 07, 2007 6:25 pm the only appeal of vinyl id the long length's its available in - usually around 7.2 - 8.4m lengths.
Personallt the best weatherboards are 'Weathertex' hardwood cladding which comes in a number of profiles or evem in sheet form Re: External cladding, which is best? 4Jan 09, 2007 10:52 am You should check out "Linea" - its a James Hardie product so its Fibre Cement which means it wont rot and is actually 16mm thick so it looks like real weatherboards. I have designed homes using it and can't imagine using anything else now if the clients want a weatherboard look. Re: External cladding, which is best? 6Jan 09, 2007 11:32 am fibre cement is prone to the damaging effects of water the same as timber - it is not waterproof. Re: External cladding, which is best? 7Jan 09, 2007 12:54 pm Linea will be a little more expensive than other less chunky looking cladding types however it depends on what look you are after. If you are after a weatherboard look then it is the best option if you don't mind the look of the lighter type claddings then there are other options. It all comes down to your personal taste.......another consideration is re-sale value.
I hope this has been some help. Re: External cladding, which is best? 8Jan 15, 2007 4:00 pm I would suggest you look at the Website under James Hardie who have just launched a range of cladding products under the Brand Name Scyon. You will see Scyon Linea Cladding as one of the products listed. The great thing about these products is that they definitely are moisture resistant, therefore the comments below that they rot are not true. They are termite resistant, fire resistant. When looking for the weatherboard look as such yes the Scyon Linea cladding product is ideal. You can also paint this product any colour, as you know the timber products tend to crack and peel after a few years especially when painting these dark colours. This product also carries a paint warranty by Taubmans on selected paints. So visit the website and take a look at the product. Looking forward to your comments. Re my second point – yes exactly.
