Personally I would have 5mm toughen to windows then you don't have to screen the fixed panel glass of the window All opening windows still need screening, so you cant get away from that. the screens are prevent embers penetrating window and door openings That will only cost $3-4k for the average house so its not a big deal BAL requirements up to 29 really dont cost much, it's only when you start getting to 40 or FZ that costs escalate. You are limited with external doors which need to be fire rated, and draught strips on the garage door and ember proof weepholes ( and a couple of other things) but over all it is hardly anything money wise.
