Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 10, 2021 10:13 am Hi, Looking for advice on how to repair this. Not sure what it is called. Our home theatre has these recessed walls with downlights. On this wall, the plasterboard is detaching from the brickwork. The tow outside photos show the cracking and gaps. The other photo is from inside the roof cavity looking into the area. There appears to be a steel bar, which I assume is somehow holding the bricks, maybes its an L shape? and the bricks sit on the bar? Then the plasterboard is somehow glues to the bar/brick. Anyway, wanting to know how I should repair this. I can get some props from the hire shop to hold it in place. Should I run some liquid nails on the inside? What is the correct process here? cheers Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: recessed wall repair 2May 10, 2021 2:04 pm Redback971 Looking for advice on how to repair this. Looks to me that the problem is lack of flexibility in the plaster/paint. The steel lintel will expand and contract more than the lining materials that are attached to it, and that movement is causing the cracking. To fix it you need to strip it back, fill the gap with something flexible and then paint with paint that can handle the movement. I don’t think liquid nails is the answer, but a paint place should be able to give you some advice as to what you could use. Also, are the downlights halogen or LED, as halogen would create a fair bit of heat, which might be contributing.
