We have a small 2 bed 1 bath villa, that we are renovating to add a 2nd story. Upstairs will include 2 beds, a 2nd living area and a family bath with separate toilet. Downstairs we'll knock through the existing bedrooms to create a large master with walk in robe and ensuite. My question is about the ensuite! Our original drawings had the ensuite as dual access with two doors- one from the walk in robe and another from the living area to create an accessible bathroom down stairs. But we found that the dual access compromised the bathroom layout. Instead we want to shut off access to the living area and this downstairs bathroom and ensuite only and we would expect guest and kids to use the upstairs bathroom. Our builder is horrified and thinks we cant shut the downstairs toilet off!! What do you guys think? Larger, spacious ensuite downstairs and family bathroom upstairs or the accessible downstairs bathroom is most important, even if it means cramming everything into a tiny space. TIA Re: No family downstairs bathroom? 4May 06, 2021 1:27 pm If you don't want to share the ensuite with guests, I would try and squeeze a powder room in somewhere. You may find some space under the stairs to put it in.
