These have been related to issues that were not forseen - for example structural issues identified when demolishing part of our existing home. We’re finding the quotes to action these as much higher than we anticipated - while we do won’t want to delay the build we want reassurance that we are being charged fairly. Can we request copies of quotes/invoices for the variation work that are from sub contractors? Is this reasonable to ask for or will it signal to our builders that we are distrustful? That said, it is your build and your money, and your relationship with your builder should be one of openness and honesty. As long as you calmly and respectfully outline any concerns you have and propose that as a reasonable way to address those concerns, I can’t see why they would be resentful. If they are resentful, it might say something about your relationship and what you can expect from their workmanship. If your patio is going to be 35 sqm then that's going to need Council Approval.
