I am baffled. I was called upon to assess a problem with some windows in a 70's brick veneer house on stumps. All 5 windows ranging from 1.8 - 2.4 wide along one long wall finish around 400mm from the floor and extend up to the eaves lining.
Externally sill bricks are in place and intact.I am assuming there is a bearer on piers along this long wall. The floor inside seems flat across the room and no signs of plaster cracks. The windows have fixed glass in the lower sections and awning sashes above. It seems the sill trimmer has gone down around 30mm and dragged the window with it resulting in the outer beveled section of the sill to split and bend upwards around 30mm (not exaggerating) from pressure on the sill bricks.Whats baffling though is that the eaves lining is flat across from the fascia to the window. Its like the outer skin of the brickwork has gone up,but surely this would dislodge the sill bricks which are intact and look ok.I dont know if the brick piers the bearer is on are engaged or not but still would be sitting on the footing.Any ideas?

Sounds unusual. I've seen sliding windows bind because either the lintel was undersized or in one case the sill trimmer was forced up because of shifting foundations. You may have to remove a section of plasterboard to have a look or get under the house and check out the subfloor along that wall.
