It's Michelles power drain on the electrical grid Re: Has a ceiling fan ever fallen on anyone? lol 30Dec 12, 2008 12:25 pm I know that my original question was kind of amusing for most of you, and I find the whole fear of ceiling fans falling off the ceiling quite funny too, but I’m actually a bit concerned about mine now…
We’ve been using the bedroom fan pretty much every night for about the last 2 months, always on the lowest setting. The first few nights it was fine, just making the normal whooshing sound. Then after this, it was making faint sort of high pitched whining noises, but not all the time and it was so quiet it didn’t really worry me. It wasn’t annoying. However, for the past 3 weeks, it’s not making the whine anymore, but instead it makes these sort of constant tapping/clicking noises. It sounds like screws or something moving around slightly somehow. Like a tap-tap kind of noise. And it goes all night, relentlessly. It’s not overly loud, but every now and then it’s REALLY piercing and gets into my brain/ears. It’s so constant and frequent too, like it’ll tap every few seconds, and often there’ll be 3 quicker taps in a second. I’m nervous the fan’s going to fall off. I wonder why it’s started doing this… And I’m also curious as to why the lounge room fan which appears identical to the bedroom one in every way, on its lowest setting (3 is the lowest for both fans), it’s half the speed of the bedroom one on its lowest setting. Is it possible for fans to go TOO fast for their setting? Should I get someone to look into the noises? They really are disturbing me. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Has a ceiling fan ever fallen on anyone? lol 31Dec 13, 2008 12:06 pm I don't think you're going to get any sleep unless you do get your fan checked but it is starting to sound like paranoia. Interestinly though fans I bought in the past had on the packaging to never place over a bed. We did though. I have got four fans in our garage waiting on our new house and they don't say anything like that. Fi has moved in!! Re: Has a ceiling fan ever fallen on anyone? lol 32Dec 13, 2008 6:48 pm Yeah, it's probably major paranoia. I mean, I see fans in shops, houses, etc and they're going SO fast. Much faster than my one, and they seem fine. Or some seem incredibly wobbly and loose, but also appear to be stable, so...who knows? It's more annoying now, with those constant loud taps and clicks and creaks.
And I wonder why the fan in the lounge on setting 3 is half the speed of the bedroom one on the same setting? Is there a reason for that?? Oh, and our fan in the bedroom is above the lower half of the bed, but if it fell from the ceiling, it'd fall right on us. Fun times. lol. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing!
