It's a bit hard to make out from the pictures exactly what it is like all over. Did they wash off the same day or the next day? Exposed agg should be acid washed and sealed as part of the price. The guys I do formwork for wash off the same day but they still apply retarder, although they only have to give it a light spray because they are washing early using low pressure and broom. It typically gives a lower level of exposure that is more bare foot friendly. It should still be even all over. Many guys use a heavy coat of retarder and then pressure wash the next day. That normally gives a deeper level of exposure, which some people like but is far more course. The final acid wash cleans the stones of any cloudiness and loose dust and then the sealer brings up the colour of the stones and concrete. If the exposure is too patchy you can ask to have it sand blasted which will expose everything more, it's the last resort to save under exposed concrete. If they have let it go too far without using a retarder that would explain the under exposure. If they then tried on the same day with a high pressure washer the concrete would be to soft and if they weren't very careful you'd end up with over exposure. That kind of looks like what might have happened but without knowing the exact procedure I'm only guessing. Have they acid washed yet? Otherwise your guess right, in trying to fix the issue its gone from being mostly under-exposed to a mix of both under and over. I need to chat to them about the acid wash and seal. I left a message the other day asking whether it will be done, but they haven't got back to me. At this stage I don't think they have any intention of doing it. Re: Exposed aggregate driveway issues 7Apr 01, 2021 1:08 am You can't high pressure concrete a few days after. It's basically set off by them. Maybe they tried to sand blast it? Where are you located and how much per M² if you don't mind me asking? He said it would be pressure washed, but I was out of town when the correction was done and only saw it a few days after, so it's possible it was sandblasted instead. And no problem. I'm in Brissie and it was $150/m2+gst Re: Exposed aggregate driveway issues 10Apr 01, 2021 1:57 am At $150 M² it should most definitely be acid washed and sealed. How many M² was the pour? Was it the same person who did the other work in your pictures? Half of it looked cleaned and sealed with an even level of exposure, basically what you should expect. All up it was around 90m2, including the driveway and a path around the front and side of the house. I think the driveway alone was 60m2. And it was the same person that did the whole job. In some of the photos it looks like the second batch of concrete (which is much more even) is sealed, but it hasn't been.
