Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 11, 2008 4:04 pm Handover of new house set to take place next Wed Oct 14th and we will have until Oct 28th to be completely out of this house.
We have made a list of things to do in that time: - insurance for new house to kick in on Wed, cancel insurance on old house effective from 29th Oct. - transfer of Austar (Foxtel to city folk) - transfer of telephone line and internet connection - change postal address with all utilities etc ( I have a list from Australia Post of places neccesary to inform) Re-direct mail for possibly 12 months. -ring council re delivery of rubbish and recycling bins - change electricity to new place (I think builder has form so it changes from them to us) and inform elec company that we are no longer responsible for this house from 29th Oct. Have I forgotten anything?? It's over 22 years since I've moved house, am very rusty with all this!! Re: Have I forgotten anything? 3Oct 11, 2008 4:50 pm Pets registration ? Car insurance, I hate to give them an excuse not to pay a claim if required
Drivers licence address, I think you only have a short time to notify motor vehicles. Good luck with the move, you must be excited! regards sean Re: Have I forgotten anything? 5Oct 11, 2008 8:25 pm Change of address is the main one. We appllied for a 6-month mail redirection, it cost about $70 but any mail addressed to us to the old place now automatically gets redirected here; a "Redirected Mail" sticker on such items alerts us to something we obviously forgot.
Here's a fairly comprehensive list of organisations that we notified: All utilities Local council Internet Car rego and your licenses Car insurance Car leasing company if applicable Your equivalent of RACV if applicable Banks and/or Building Societies Work, Union, Super Accountant Schools Medicare Private health provider Any clubs or associations that you or your family belong to Magazine subscriptions Newsagents for paper deliveries ELECTORAL ENROLMENTS The other thing you have obviously forgotten is a REAL photo of you in a Bulldogs top! Re: Have I forgotten anything? 6Oct 11, 2008 9:03 pm Thanks for that comprehensive list Eager; I have a list of places which need informing in a brochure from Australia Post, will check if you have come up with any others which are not on it and if we get our mail redirected for 12 months any occasional contacts will be picked up like that.
Our old house is only 1km away and being sold to a friend of the family so we can always call around every now and then and check if anything slipped thru the net and went to old house. What I really meant was: is there anything else I need to organise before moving - things like getting council bins, transferring telephone etc? Is there anything else I should be doing other than what is on my list in OP? Eager, I keep telling you they don't sell Western Bulldogs gear in country SA - perhaps I can get some Central Districts Bulldogs gear (SANFL Premiers again) and wear that just to shut you up Ausfatcat, do you mean notify my kids that I'm moving?? Hmm, now do I really want to do that? Helyn Ausfatcat, do you mean notify my kids that I'm moving?? Hmm, now do I really want to do that? No! Don't tell them! Emptynester at 45! WOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Geoff - Decophile. Re: Have I forgotten anything? 8Oct 11, 2008 9:31 pm Actually the youngest still lives at home.
Do I have to tell him? Well, yes, unfortunately we'll need some young muscle to help move and lift heavy things Which reminds me of something else to add to list - book removal truck!!! (we are just planning to hire one and do it ourselves, DH has a truck licence and we're only moving 1 km.) Re: Have I forgotten anything? 10Oct 15, 2008 5:26 pm As soon as you get your new phone number - add it to the DoNotCall Register 'We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.' - Winston Churchill Re: Have I forgotten anything? 11Oct 15, 2008 6:34 pm Eager All utilities Local council Internet Car rego and your licenses Car insurance Car leasing company if applicable Your equivalent of RACV if applicable Banks and/or Building Societies Work, Union, Super Accountant Schools Medicare Private health provider Any clubs or associations that you or your family belong to Magazine subscriptions Newsagents for paper deliveries ELECTORAL ENROLMENTS The other thing you have obviously forgotten is a REAL photo of you in a Bulldogs top! I'm sure I read that one is under no obligation to notify the ATO of your new address until your next tax return. So we didn't. But I'm buggered if I can find the link on their website now. Geoff - Decophile. Re: Have I forgotten anything? 14Nov 08, 2008 8:55 pm Bumping up my own thread from 3 weeks ago: how pathetic
But I now have Broadband back on and thought I better notify places of my change of address, obviously utilities are already connected and I have re-directed my mail but motor reg etc still need to know and I believe there is an internet site so you can do all this from the comfort of your computer desk - does anyone have it? Re: Have I forgotten anything? 15Nov 09, 2008 7:46 am Hi Helyn,
I thought that when you do a change of address at the post pox you can tick a box on the form that allows them to change your address for a bunch of organisations. Congratulations of getting to your new home! regards sean Re: Have I forgotten anything? 17Nov 09, 2008 10:31 am Helyn glad to hear the move when well. YAY
The other one to tell that you've moved is friends and family who may drop in over x-mas. Sort of d@n - any company that calls people who are on the do not call register is liable for a fine. recent claim was this one. As you can read - even though a overseas call centre was making the calls with an outdated or they ignored the list. the Oz company was responsible for the actual act and got fined got it. Quote: Dodo cops record fine for do-not-call breach Helen Westerman | October 22, 2008 - 4:45PM The Australian Communications and Media Authority has fined Dodo $147,400 for calling people who are on the Do Not Call register - the highest penalty of its kind so far. ACMA said it issued the fine after it received numerous complaints that an offshore call centre acting for the telecommunications firm had made telemarketing calls to numbers on the register. The penalty is the largest imposed since the Do Not Call register was established on May 31 last year, making it illegal for telemarketers to make unsolicited contact with people who register their landlines and mobiles. ACMA chairman Chris Chapman said Dodo had co-operated with its investigation and had given undertakings it would comply with the register. By paying the fine, Dodo had avoided court and a higher penalty, he said. But Mr Chapman said businesses using offshore call centres were obliged to oversee their activities. ''You can't hide behind offshore call centres, because ultimately the calls they make are your responsibility,'' he said. ACMA said it had received a total of 28,804 complaints and investigated 23,336 alleged breaches of the Do Not Call Register Act. But repeat offenders make up the bulk of its investigations, with 5% of businesses investigated by ACMA responsible for about 70% of total complaints. Dodo declined to comment on the matter. http://smallbusiness.smh.com.au/starting/finance/dodo-cops-record-fine-for-do-not-call-breach-906181736.html Re: Have I forgotten anything? 18Nov 09, 2008 11:48 am Thanks for your advice everyone.
Sean, I have already re-directed my mail so missed the boat on ticking a box on the Australia Post form - I was hopeing there is an internet equivalent Yak Chat we are the country cousins - family don't come here for Xmas, they expect us to go to them in the city every year (actually last year we went to my brothers in Roxby Downs but back to parents in Adelaide this year) We found in our old house that the Do Not Call register did not stop unsolicited calls entirely but did reduce them a lot. However we have same phone number transferred to new house so we shouldn't have to notify them again? Don;t assume that one - new address etc it may drop off the list. and re those callers who still ring - report them. Thats the only way the list can be of more use to everyone.
