Your right as a consumer is to ensure you can ask and sight their registration and if they want your business they should be happy to show you and provide you with details of their insurance. Mane I take it that the house is not under construction and is occupied. Should the faults have been picked up by the building surveyor and, if applicable, by the building inspector he works with prior to handover? Who told you that your building consultant has to be a registered building inspector? Few building consultants are also registered building inspectors. If you have major defects, you need verification that is best served by an appropriate industry professional like a structural engineer to strengthen your case at V-CAT.
