Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 07, 2021 1:52 pm Designing a new curved staircase now. I want to have the frist to third tread deeper say between 400 and 480mm. I understand the BCA requires minimum 215mm and maximum 355mm per tread, still wanted to check if anyone has done something similar before? Re: Can I have a deeper tread in Australia? 3Mar 13, 2021 7:42 pm You would have to imagine that if it's in the same flight then changing the going would not be approved. A flight of stairs with a change of pitch can be dangerous. 480 is an awkward size. It's half way between a step and a landing. It would make for an unusual size. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ As you can see, the bottom three parallel treads will have a width @ 287mm wide whereas as you start to climb up the staircase the treads are 353mm wide ( measured at the centre line ). From my first screenshot above, the going to tread relationship will be measured 400mm in from each side. The other two measurements ( 130mm at the inside stringer and 553mm at the outside stringer ) are there just for reference. You should post up a screenshot of what you are trying to do...
