Our house is close to completion and the painter has sealed the plaster and applied one coat of our chosen colour (Dulux Hog Bristle). The problem is that we think it's too dark (or darker than we expected) and want to change it to a half-stength of the same colour. The question is, do we need to go back to white, and then do two fresh coats of 50%, or are paints good enough today that we can simply so go over the existing first colour coat with two coats of 50%? Any experiences would be welcome! Thanks Gus Re: Internal Paint Colour Question 2Oct 10, 2008 10:44 am Can’t your painter tell you the answer?
I’m not a hundred % on this one, to get the best out of the 50% I would recommend an undercoat. Otherwise you will probably have the full coming through and distorting the new colour. This plus shadow may equate to half strength, who knows! Worth asking the question I think or trying on a sample. Good Luck. I'd just paint over the top. With just one coat you will get a darker colour because of the underlaying layer, but a second coat of the new colour should do the trick. Do the hard jobs first. I painted over a dark blue with 3 coats of white, 2 wasn't bad but I THOUGHT I could still see the blue, but yours is similar so it should be fine. Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7148 Thanks. Yeh ideally that would have been good, but have progressed too far now. Hoping some well placed internal walls fixed up into the battens will provide some… 2 5393 Thank you alexp79 and gommeqld for your advice, that's very helpful, thanks 3 7902 |
