Incidently my concreter just called up a min ago and mentioned the same thing. Mentioned he will draw up the formwork (double garage allows upto 5 to 5.5 mts perhaps) and this should be within the range. Before pouring of concerete, the inspector would either decline but most likely should not be a problem. Builders always submit plans to comply to the minimum requirement i've heard.
