It very much depends on the type of engineered flooring. The cheapest can just be a "picture" of wood glued to a rather nondescript substrate and with a glossy coat. The best are a real timber laminate that can be sanded like wood maybe once or twice in it’s life. However, it is not real solid timber, so you need to be careful. You would need to determine what it is you have there. If it can be refinished, then depending on the type of timber, you might be able stain it your colour of choice and then re-coat it with a matt or satin finish. Personally, I think this is something best done by an experienced professional to get a uniform finish, and it may just come out as less value for money than replacing the floor altogether.
