Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 22, 2021 8:38 pm Hi just after some advice. We are in Perth and our pool is getting installed. It’s a 6.5x2.5m pool and depth is 0.8-1.8m. I think it would be about 22000-24000L 🤷🏻♀️ It’s a brick cavity pool with a vinyl liner. We initially wanted a pool blanket with underground roller (and manual winder) but this is more expensive than we first thought - ~$4k. Just wondering if anyone can advise about best heating and cost. I think pool pumps are around $4k so would rather just do that. Or is there something else that is better? I know there are lots of options. Just after best types for our type of pool and a rough idea of cost if anyone know. Cheers. Re: Pool heating 3Jan 23, 2021 6:59 am aussieta are you concerned with initial cost or running costs do you want to be able to swim all year or just extend season you already knocked out the cover which is the best first step We don’t want anything that would be really expensive to run. I think just extending the season is fine. Just after the most economical heating I guess. Would want the pool to be about 29/30 degrees. Cheers Re: Pool heating 5Jan 23, 2021 10:01 am The trouble with solar heating in Perth combined with a cover is that the 29/30 you're after will become +35 really quickly and whilst it might mean you can swim in Autumn it will mean you don't want to swim in Summer. By bitter experience I can tell you that this combination made our pool virtually unusable. One or the other and a cover at least saves water. Yes we would not get a cover as it will be too expensive with the underground winder and also aesthetics are important. It’s a small pool area so we don’t want a big bulky blanket holder above ground taking up room, also think they’re ugly TBH. We don’t want it like a bath in summer. We have two young kids so would be nice to extend the swimming season. With this in mind can you give any recommendations at all? Cheers Well if a cover is out then the only choice is solar heating and a large amount of evaporation. If you can get a system such as aussieta suggests, with a tropical mode, then that may be the go but you'd have to take into account the extra electricity to run the pump at night. There are additives you can put in your pool that allegedly form a film that reduces evaporation but the ones I tried didn't achieve anything. Re: Pool heating 9Jan 23, 2021 12:34 pm aussieta solar heating has a controller and turns off when temp reached mine also has a tropical mode so can cool pool at night if required blanket is used at night to trap heat in Yes our system also had the ability to set a set point at which the system would turn off. Set to 23 degrees and with a cover on during the day we invariably ended up with a 35 degree pool. The answer might be to take the cover off during the day but that kind of defeats the purpose of saving water.
