I all. New here. I want to replace the tiles in my en-suite and pulling off the 225x150mm ceramic wall tiles has revealed a black adhesive that’s somewhere between foamy and gooey. It’s fairly soft (not at all brittle) comes off easily with a scraper. See photo. It doesn’t appear to be water soluble and so given that and it’s malleability, I think it’s asphalt based. I know some old black asphalt mastics contained asbestos but this was built in 1985/86 which is a bit late to be asbestos containing. Anyone got any insight to help me understand whether this stuff is got nasties in it? Much appreciated!
