Tiles - difference between $30 and $60 tiles in the bathroom

At the $30/m2 price point I’d say they’d be ceramic tiles. $60/m2 you’d probably be looking at a decent porcelain tile.

Really just depends on what you’d prefer.

As long as they're glazed tiles they'll both be the same to clean/maintain.

Difference between the tiles from 30 to 60 would not be a whole lot different. A lot of tiles cost more due to being made from smaller manufacturers.

The real difference in Tiles is the Tile Installer, doesn't matter how expensive the tile they can still do crap work.

Mitred edges on tiles can only be done with porcelain due to the compound that they are made of, ceramic is too soft. You will find it hard to find someone who will mitre tiles as tilers will just use Tile Trim which can be L shape or Box Shape in various colours and finishers.

When we mitre and install tiles they are pre done using water jet machines but this is expensive way of doing it as we send them to get fabricated properly so you don't end up with sharp edges that are vulnerable to chips or cutting yourself.

I would have thought that porcelain tiles would be more fragile.

Porcelain is harder than ceramic.
Ceramic tiles have a brown (clay) base with a glazed surface where as porcelain tiles have a more refined base and are fired at a higher temperature so are more dense.
Both are quite fine for bathrooms and come in a variety of colours and finishes.
Our bathroom uses porcelain on the floor and up the feature walls and a ceramic tile on the remainder of the walls.
Both of the tiles are mitred.
Personally I think that mitred look way better than tile trims, but like most things in life others will prefer a tile trim. It costs more to have mitred.
As I mentioned previously a decent tiler will be able to mitre either tile neatly on site.

But wouldn't the strength of tiles also be determined by what sort of base they are attached to, primarily whether the area has been waterproofed well, if it is even (or not), etc?
