We're renovating our whole house pretty much. An important part of which is insulation.
Our house is a log cabin with platerboard on the inside.
I figured the best way to insulate was to use Foilboards, but this will mean that the thickness of our walls will increase dramatically (15mm for the foilboard, plus 15mm for the battens plus the plaster board).
We were eventually going to blue board over the logs and render the house.
I'm now thinking that we should perhaps just remove the logs all together and just put the blueboard up (with the appropriate insulation & plaster board).
We would then have the option of either rendering, or perhaps the cheaper option would be to cut all the logs in half and clad the house with the reused logs?
If we were to go down this path, would we require council approval??
Does this sound like a disaster plan? I'm trying to keep the budget as tight as possible, but I think at the end of the day leaving the logs up will prove to be false economy.
Any other suggestions?
