Home and contents insurance start

Hi, we are advised to have home and contents insurance before handover. However, we don't have the exact date of handover yet. All insurance companies I checked for quote are asking for handover date. Is it too early for us to apply for the insurance?

You can get most insurances pretty much instantaneously either online or over the phone. That will also depend on whether they need additional documents from you and/or the builder like compliance or occupation certificates.
