Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 17, 2020 4:51 pm Hi all, thought I would share the nightmare that had been my new to us home. After much searching purchased a home in Margate qld that suited our purpose of dual living. It had been recently and extensively renovated. Unfortunately due to COVID we couldn’t really seriously inspect. Only going off photos and building and pest inspection. Here is a list of things I’ve found since moving in ( May this year) They removed side gates blocking access to rear of house. Physically cut the wood to remove. Were returned but now useless. All the shrubs and trees cut off at ground level. Stumps everywhere. Roof leaks. Found one section. Removed sheets to discover there had been a fire in kitchen. Still can’t work out where water gets in to downstairs area. Electrical. Oh boy. Lights not connected to switches. Switches with nothing connected. Wiring just twisted and taped. Live sockets with no switch. Sensor lights with bulbs just unscrewed. ( paid good money to electrician to work out ). Back deck roof and guttering leaks like Niagara Falls when it rains then drips onto middle of back stairs for days after. Most of the plaster upstairs has been double plastered. This gives the stud finder false readings of power behind wall or roof. No manhole in ceiling. I cut one and discovered original manhole had just been covered with second layer of plaster. Nothing square or straight. Kitchen benches. Rear sliding door. Back stairs. And not just a little bit out. A lot out. There is more but this post already long enough. Slowly working through fixing things. Will endeavour to ask many questions when they arise. Thanks for listening. Re: New home nightmare 3Nov 17, 2020 6:47 pm aussieta why did you buy without property inspection? What out of the above would have been picked up in a standard building and pest inspection. Re: New home nightmare 5Nov 18, 2020 6:57 am I would think some of the things you mention would count as a breach of contract, especially those things done after the contract was signed but before settlement. You might consider seeking legal advice. You might consider seeking legal advice. We did. They were made to return gates. And shelves they removed from wall in kitchen. Also they took storage cupboards from both bathrooms. We didn’t realise they were not “fixed” items and unfortunately wording on contract allowed them to take. Apart from that the cost of chasing was outweighing the benefit of return. The point of the post is highlighting the absolute second rate workmanship this guy did. But hid well enough to make it look good on the outside.
