We are doing an extension and now thinking we would like to render the bottom floor instead of plain bricks. It has been suggested to clad and render the cladding instead of brick veneer and rendering. The existing house is brick and would be rendered too.
Any thoughts for or against?

If it was me, I'd opt to extend in BV so it is essentially the same type of construction, then acrylic render the lot in one go. But I am old school as well. You van make a BV wall very thermally efficient - more so than a standard 90mm clad wall.

Thanks for your feedback Stewie,
That was my thought although can get the house rendered as well if we do hebel paneling or blueboard on the extension as opposed to brick veneer so making me think twice.

Well I retract my first post then. Clad the top and render both levels. By the time it is all painted , it will tie both levels together. I hate driving along and seeing obvious " box on top" style add-ons.

Sounds unusual. I've seen sliding windows bind because either the lintel was undersized or in one case the sill trimmer was forced up because of shifting foundations. You…
