Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Engineered wood (I-Joist, LVL) Versus Solid timber joist 21Nov 20, 2020 10:01 am Capacity and deflection. I guess what expert is saying that man made lumber has the correct capacity but maybe allows for more deflection than natural timber when designing? Probably because its more predictable. More deflection more bounce. When engineers select man perhaps they don't consider application too much. Deflection in a roof wouldn't be so bad. Its a static load but in a floor with a dynamic load... Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 11478 Thanks Simon, I guess I'm no concerned with the volume of the noise rather that dead and hollow sound and feel that is associated with floating floors. But I'm not sure… 3 4570 Assuming you've modelled the TB8, TB10, TB12, TB2 & J1 joists/LVLs there, it appears as per drawing to me. There maybe should be an additional J1 between TB10 and T12 if… 3 27591 |
