Needs to be robust enough to handle the weight of the doors, so the bulkhead will need to be reinforced witt braces. 2) Keep the current bulkhead and install a barn door sliding track onto it. Again it needs to handle the weight of the doors you want. Option 2 is more DIY friendly and likely to be more cost effective. Depending on where this room is, you might need to have an engineer approve the adjustment to the bulkhead if there's a major structural beam running above it. Hope this helps.
