Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Does a standard HIA Building contract require legal advi 2Oct 22, 2020 1:55 pm Absolutely get a pre contract inspection as hia is a heavily in favour of builders group, their purpose is to assist builders in every way they can, their contracts favour builders big time. If your in Victoria Melbourne Geelong area I would look at building expert website which does pre contract inspections . Finding mistakes, unfair clauses etc is common,a absolute must, get onto now. Re: Does a standard HIA Building contract require legal advi 3Oct 29, 2020 10:23 am ![]() Hi, We are currently awaiting our building contract. The contract will be a standard HIA building contract. Our question is should we get a legal representative to read over the contract ? As background the HIA contract is heavily weighted in favour of the builder. My understanding is that it has been developed by the association that represents builders and from personal experience is very one sided. I would definitely recommend getting some construction legal advice. If you're in either Sydney or Melbourne i can recommend a very good construction lawyer who is totally across it if you're interested PM me for details cheers.
