To clarify, I want to attack the long side of the acrylic (not 3mm side) parallel to the 5mm side of the hardwood. Feel free to suggest products obtainable from Bunnings. Re: What screw type should I use to attach acrylic to wood? 2Oct 10, 2020 12:45 am Hi. I assume you mean that you want to attach the acrylic and timber face to face. In which case your screws can be no longer than 8mm or it will go through the timber. Do you need countersunk head or pan head. You can get 4gauge 6mm pan head screws from Bunnings. If you want countersunk you will have to get them from a specialist fixings supplier. Countersunk screws would be something like this. Hello, I was planning to have the head of the screw on the acrylic side, is a countersink screw still appropriate? Also, I want the screw to enter from the 5mm side of hardwood, so my question is more of "is there a screw size that is smaller than 5mm and won't cause the wood to split?" Re: What screw type should I use to attach acrylic to wood? 5Oct 10, 2020 10:27 am Any chance you could do a quick drawing of what you want to achieve. I don't understand how you can have the head on the acrylic side but have the screw enter from the timber side. You may have to drill a 2mm pilot hole to prevent the timber from swelling as you screw it in. What exactly are you making out of 5x300 timber? It's just an example, the actual dimensions of the timber is 350 x 170 x 5 mm. Thanks for the help, I couldn't figure out how to determine the screw sizes.
