Hey, I’ve built a new house about 12 months ago. I’ve recently decided to get solar for it, and reading my engineering drawings for the roof there is the disclaimer “No accomodation for loads such as solar and other systems unless noted.” Seems my builder charges an extra $300 to modify trusses to support solar as a relative has found out who is also building a house through them. Not sure if that is strength or holes to drill into?
Seems odd, as what if I had sold the house a new owner wanting to install solar, they could really have been stuffed up if the roof can’t cope with solar panels?
Is it something a solar installer would normally address, eg put in a strengthener? I’m going with a reputable installer. Didn’t choose to get the builder to do solar as it was overpriced for a no name system at the time.
Will be 20-25 panels. Roof standard AS1684
