Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 02, 2020 3:31 pm Hey, I’ve built a new house about 12 months ago. I’ve recently decided to get solar for it, and reading my engineering drawings for the roof there is the disclaimer “No accomodation for loads such as solar and other systems unless noted.” Seems my builder charges an extra $300 to modify trusses to support solar as a relative has found out who is also building a house through them. Not sure if that is strength or holes to drill into? Seems odd, as what if I had sold the house a new owner wanting to install solar, they could really have been stuffed up if the roof can’t cope with solar panels? Is it something a solar installer would normally address, eg put in a strengthener? I’m going with a reputable installer. Didn’t choose to get the builder to do solar as it was overpriced for a no name system at the time. Will be 20-25 panels. Roof standard AS1684 Re: Can any new home roof support solar panels? 2Oct 02, 2020 3:40 pm I'd love to know about this too. My build is nearly complete, and once the roof was up, I got my solar guy to come in and install the panels and cabling. Solar was not mentioned on our engineering drawings, QBCC contracts or PC schedule so it's possible that my builder just does roofs to cater for solar by default. Either way, I could have been in your situation so I'm keen to know more. 4 3730 Hello - we were hoping to apply laminate click lock panels to our concrete ceiling, but not too sure how to go about attaching the panels to the concrete.
